Post Training Maintenance

Rafael and Tartaruga paid a visit to a Chinese sinseh who attended to their muscular injuries–Rafael’s shoulder and Tartaruga’s very sore and achy lower back. Right from the get-go, Master Chang had a handful of things for us to keep in mind, and even more so when he found out that we were training capoeira seriously.

To save you the agony of having to go for potentially painful treatment in the future, here are some things you guys could try to practise from now on:

  • Don’t Take A Cold Shower After Training
Always try as far as possible to take a hot shower.
  • Dry-off Immediately After Training
Your body perspires in order to cool itself down when your muscles are hard at work during training. However, it’s important to dry yourselves well once class is over and keep your bodies warm–bring a sweater or at least a t-shirt to keep your torsos covered. This prevents your muscles from cooling down too quickly and start seizing up, resulting in aches the next day. (You may stink less after class. Save your cars’ upholstery.)
  • Cut Back On Cold Drinks
It’s something to do with making sure that you’ve got good circulation throughout your body. Taking iced drinks too often can interfere with it. (Hot drinks are usually cheaper than cold ones at mamak stalls. Save money.)
  • Keep Your Body Warm When You Sleep At Night
Tempting as it may be to sleep in your birthday suits on a warm muggy night, it would be best to still keep a shirt on at least. Remember that it does get cooler in the wee hours of the morning, and that can cause aches too. (Avoids giving your brother/sister/parents/domestic helper a fright if he/she peeks in on you in the mornings. Save on psychiatric bills.)
